Intelligence is used by our government to improve and fully understand the consequences of its national security decisions. Intelligence is a part of many national security by informing policy decisions, military actions, international negotiations, and interactions with working-level contacts in foreign countries. In this paper, we will focus on the capabilities and limitations of intelligence in supporting homeland security efforts. We will find out what exactly the intelligence community is along with the members of that community and the different sources of intelligence. We will also focus on a very important question regarding the capabilities of our Homeland Security. Can it adequately identify and adequately address future challenges that our country will face?
So, let us begin with an overview of what our intelligence community is. The Intelligence Community (IC) is a group of Executive Branch agencies and organizations that work together in intelligence activities to conduct foreign relations and provide protection to the national security of the United States. The activities that these agencies and organizations work together in play a vital role in the goal to provide our country the security it needs. These agencies work together to collect information needed by the president, the National Security Council, he Secretaries of State and Defense, and other Executive Branch officials to be able to perform their duties and fulfill their responsibilities. Any intelligence collected from these agencies and organizations is disseminated and this intelligence provides information of activities directed against the United States
