The Department of Homeland Security is a cabinet department of the United Sates federal government with a job focused around public safety. Otherwise known as DHS the Department of Homeland Security has a bunch of agencies attached to it making tasks for each agency more focused. Some of the agencies apart of DHS is the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, United States Coast Guard, and United States Secret Service. All of these play a role in making the united states safe for the public. One agency apart of DHS I decided to look into is U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. With these 2 main components ICE enforces over 400 federal statutes. Right now, ICE has “more than 20,000 employees in more than 400 offices in the United States and 46 foreign. The agency has an annual budget of approximately $6 billion” dollars. (Department of Homeland Security, n.d.) Being a part of ICE has its advantages because it is a part of a federal agency. Being a federal employee means you have more jurisdiction and resources. Like other federal agencies ICE overlaps other federal jobs. ICE acts in the same ways as the United States Border Patrol. Both of them keep illegal immigrants and items out of the US while maintaining the security of the border. Other than this ICE will travel to other countries like a US Marshal will. Even though we try to help overseas terrorism seems to spill into the US causing our government to put together teams that counteract terrorism. Some members of the counter terrorism team are ICE agents. ICE connects directly to terrorism through (HSI) National Security Investigations Division. This section of ICE stops terrorists from exploiting the nation's immigration system through fraud. This group is made up of two sections Terrorist Tracking and Pursuit Group, and SEVIS Exploitation Section. This forms Project Campus Sentinel (PCS). “These sections work together and form an integrated national security force that draws upon government databases to gather and analyze leads on visitors to the United States. They also aim to identify potential security or criminal threats. The unit also coordinates with the National Counterterrorism Center to conduct criminal investigations of national security fraud.” (Department of Homeland Security,
