As of 2022, 582 thousand people have been homeless. This goes for both of those people who you can find on the streets and in homeless shelters. Most of these homeless people are found in New York. There have also been many veterans these last few years, some people have tried to take those homeless people in, help them, get jobs, and try to get them into homeless shelters. Jane Adams was the first person to establish homeless shelters in 1889. She provided those who didn’t have a home or family to go to with food and medical treatment. Today, you can find many homeless shelters across the United States. Although, shelters aren’t 100% permanent housing for the homeless. The American Legion has recognized that homeless veterans need help. First off, the American Legion is an organization that consists of veterans. It was established in 1919 by World War 1 veterans. They’ve noticed that they should provide those homeless with housing, meals, etc. Every American Legion has a department called the “Homeless Veterans Task Force” to help them. Our nation is made up of 11% of homeless veterans. Each department has a chairperson who can be contacted for any help. Local veterans or retired veterans should be able to help in some way. They could have a small little building where they keep supplies and all. Maybe that same building could have a few rooms where some of those homeless veterans can stay. It’s a possibility because many towns have empty spaces that they don’t use, so I think this would be a great idea. Many programs have been developed for veterans who have passed away. These programs give those veterans who have passed a proper burial. They’ll even include the military honors that they’ve received throughout their service. Programs like these have collaborated with local hospitals, the VA, regional offices, and local funeral service
