An honor code is a set of rules where students must report another classmate if they violated the ‘honorable behavior’ shown in schools such as academic integrity. The honor code has been discussed widely through many American schools on whether it should be eliminated or implemented. I believe that these codes should be revised and enforced based on faith and belief and not based on supervision and security. I believe that these codes should be revised and enforced based on culture and faith instead of the current archaic honor code that is based on supervision and security. The teachers and students would have to work together to create an environment that discourages bad actions in order for it to influence the school community as a whole. This will encourage the students to establish the idea of cheating and plagiarism being bad and not being a way that will lead you to success in the future. When the student members of the senate in a private boarding school took a vote on the honor code, many felt that they “needed an environment where students and faculty could live in complete trust with one another” (Source B). Although, this perspective was from private school students, all students have this notion of wanting to feel safe in their classroom. Take for example, Chicago Public Schools. Chicago is a very diverse city, and in most schools, such as Von Steuben, teachers embrace all students no matter their cultural backgrounds, beliefs, or even their political standings. By enabling the student to feel comfortable and having teachers make aware to the students of the negative effects of plagiarism and cheating, they are already creating an environment that discourages ‘unhonorable actions.’
In conclusion, in many religions fasting is required as a symbol of their belief. Fasting could involve giving up certain things. In my religion, fasting involves not drinking or eating anything from sunrise to sunset. This is completely based on an honor system. There are no guardians or security measures in place to watch the person. People adhere to fasting because it is taught to them as a cultural and religious belief. They actually believe and trust the honor
