The last sport I did before joining Perfect Storm Athletics was diving, and it was nothing like cheering. In cheerleading, you feel part of a team. You’re being uplifted by a community of teammates, friends, and coaches that all believe in you and are willing to help you learn. Diving, on the other hand, was a completely negative experience. It’s an individual sport, which means a ton of pressure on you. The diving environment was cold, harsh, and stressful - nothing like cheer. As soon as I quit diving and joined cheer, everyone could immediately tell that that was the right choice. My social circle has widened exponentially since joining Cheer. Every year you meet new people and make new friends, as well as rejoin old friends and strengthen those bonds. I’ve met so many new people, both athletes and coaches alike, that have had such a positive impact on my life; these people make cheer entertaining and worthwhile. The fact that Perfect Storm Athletics has such an open and welcoming atmosphere is definitely a factor in how the social aspect of the sport is so helpful to me.
