How Does Corn Grow?

Alongside the soil conditions, corn grows best when it's planted at the correct depth into the soil and when it's kept apart from other corn plants. How deep do you plant corn? When planting the sweet corn seed, plant each seed an inch deep and about 6 inches apart in a row. If you are planting multiple rows, plant each row about 3 feet apart and don't make two really long rows. Instead, make blocks of four corn rows. This promotes pollination and growth. it also makes them a little easier to water and harvest.

Caring for your corn plants can vary depending on the climate. Generally speaking, you should thin out your corn plants when they are about 4 inches tall. This will make it so they remain an adequate space apart. At this phase, it's best to keep them about 12 inches apart so they don't get in each other's way. Mind the roots whenever you weed your field or move the plants for any reason, as they are surprisingly shallow. As with most plants, the soil should be able to maintain adequate moisture constantly, but this is obviously difficult in drier climates. In this case, mulch is your friend. Spread some around to avoid evaporation. Water is also your friend, of course; the corn plants will need more of it to thrive. About 5 gallons for every square yard

To harvest the corn by hand, pull the ear of corn down and twist it off. Be ready to eat, preserve or freeze sweet corn right after harvesting, because it loses its sweetness quickly. As far as storage goes, sweet corn is the easiest to store since it freezes without much problem. For best results, cut the kernels off of the cob before
