How Sharks Hunt Their Prey Sharks are some of most deadly creatures known to mankind because of their ability to hunt their prey. Sharks ability to smell blood and odors is outstanding, that’s why they can smell their prey from great distances. How do they know which way to turn you ask? They know which way to turn because one of their nostrils are exposed to the blood or odor first and they immediately turn to the direction of where their prey is located. The process of this is known as “eddy chemotaxis.” Sharks also have a “lateral line” on their skin that helps them find their prey by the vibrations and movement that are in the surrounding water. Sharks can smell by propelling themselves forward that makes water pass through their nostrils
