Have you ever been to a house party, with multiple families, resulting in a big group of children? If yes, then you know that unfortunately, most of the times the children end up all playing on electronic devices, whether they are all sharing one, or even worse, all on their own ones. This may seem like a minor problem, but it's these essential moments were the kids need to learn how to communicate and play as a group. Due to the advancement of technology, kids are introduced to phones, tablets, computers, etc. earlier on. It is said that every one out of three kids can use a mobile device before they can even speak! Your child will be exposed to every aspect of a mobile device, including texting; a real negative in our society today. Texting causes many issues among teens: bad grammar, bullying, texting while driving, distractions, etc. yet, the worst one of all is the severe loss of social/communication skills. This is because texting gives people the ability to end a conversation abruptly, take a long time to respond, multitask during it, remove themselves from the conversation, and write in short sentences. Because of this, even books for teenagers are much easier now, having shorter sentences, in order for teenagers to understand. Overall, texting does not teach the proper communication skills true Canadians proud themselves with.
