How Does Unemployment Affect College Graduates

Unemployment has always been an issue but did you know that the unemployment rate for college graduates is at a total of 7.2%. Over the years the labor market has become even more challenging for those who are newly graduated. There are many reason as to why this rate is so high the Great Recession had a great impact on employments for these freshly out of college graduates even though the recession was officially over in June of 2009 it still effects the jobs for those who are graduating today and students who are in the process of graduating. Not very many college graduates find jobs within their work force and are forced to start in jobs they are over qualified for or are getting underpaid for what they are doing. There are also other factors such as gender, race, experience and even what major they go into and many more that are more likely to determine if a person is able to obtain the job they have applied for. Studies show that most do not find these jobs until their late twenty’s after being exposed in the work force for more than a couple years which cause the unemployment rate for these graduates to drop 4%. Showing that it can take years to become stable financially but in the end all the schooling they have had to endure pays off. People who do not have a college degree have an unemployment rate of almost twice as large as those who obtained a college degree.

Most graduates do not come out of college with jobs and are subjected to finding jobs within their work force they have earned their degrees in. Many find this very difficult due to many reasons one being their gender which can play a very big role due to the fact that men and women tend to leans towards different career paths.
