In the book To Kill a Mockingbird we see a black man lose his life in jail for a crime he did not commit. We also see people get treated unfairly because of their past. Maybe if Bob Ewell was treated differently the case never would have happened. Maybe if the people of Maycomb could see that the black men and women were the same as them Tom wouldn't have been found guilty. What do you think?
The book I will be talking about is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in Alabama during the Great Depression. It is narrated by Jean Louise otherwise known as Scout. Scout is the main character of this story. We learn that her father is a lawyer and is representing a black man named Tom Robinson who was accused of raping a white woman. We also learn about Boo Radley who has not left his house since he was a little kid, but ends up helping the kids. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story but it's an educational story that helps kids understand the world a little better. In this book we see a lot of different types of people. We then see Calpernia take Scout into the kitchen and tell her that she has to be nice to him because he's compony. Scout says back that he is just a Cunningham which Calpernia replied to by saying that they might be better than them but it does not count for anything the way they are disgracing them. In other words this means that even if you are better than someone else you can't act better if you do not act right. This is important to the plot of the story because you would not understand what is happening throughout the rest of the story if this did not happen. We need this part to learn more about the characters and watch them
