Slavery still exists today. It is surprising; however, slavery exists today in different forms. Women, and even men, are kidnapped from their country and put into prostitution and used as slaves in extremely inhumane ways. Although human trafficking is not called slavery, it is the same as slavery. In slavery and the slave trade, African slaves were imported into Europe and North America; however, in trafficking people, mostly women, are imported into other countries for the causes of prostitution and sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is one of world’s largest growing criminal industries.1 Georgia’s former state attorney general, Samuel Olens, claims that human trafficking is a brutal, complex and widespread crime, which involves vulnerable …show more content…
The victims are sold and broken down emotionally as their trust is broken. Many sex trafficking victims are mentally and physically abused and it takes a lot of effort to restore their health such as rehabilitation and counseling services or sometimes even residential housing if their families fail to provide them with proper care.5 Usually, sex trafficking victims suffer many different type of abuses as they are drugged to stay up and perform sexual activities as many times as they can, which is not healthy. It provides help to the victims of human trafficking despite of their age. Due to non-profit organizations like this, many rescuers are helped and kept secured. They are provided services depending on their individual needs.
Through the Trafficking Victim Protection Act of 2000, the congress’s goal is to eliminate human trafficking by creating grant programs for victims and law enforcement and creating new criminal laws.7 There are some other ways one can help prevent human trafficking. If one finds something suspicious or has a doubt that there may be forced sex or trafficking going on, one should immediately report it.
