Initially it appeared that the storm had passed, and everything was calm. Later we learned on the news that New Orleans was under water and we saw people on rooftops holding signs desperate for help. People were piled in the superdome and the convention center. Hospitals were unable to care for the sick. People with chronic diseases or pain had no access to needed medications. Bodies were on the ground covered and some uncovered. Over eighteen hundred people lost their lives. I had a feeling of sadness, disgust, and fear of the unknown. I prayed daily for financial help in restoring and improving life for all families affected by this disaster.
