The way Amazon is going about their business is a great and scary method to maximize the customers and compete in a tough online Market. Amazon started out as a hub for sellers and companies to sell their products. From there they added properties for Hollywood studios selling DVD’s of movies and TV shows along with an on demand online purchasing of digital material. But that was not enough. They added “Simple Storage System” an online storage component for business to have their online material stored to cost in-house storage issues. Amazon also provide “EC2,” a cloud service, that gives processing power for companies so they do not have to provide their own processors cutting costs. Finally a Mechanical Turk, which people do the jobs that the machine cannot do such as transcribing audio, that frees up a company’s people to do other work (Rainer, R.K., & Turban, E., 2009). Amazon chose do add these services, which is outside the realm of retail services, to bring in new business. But new services keep Amazon competing with other companies that are providing these features. The companies who use Amazon’s new features have customers and those customers are potential Amazon customers. The relationships that are created by Amazon offering different options then what were the norms allow Amazon to expand. This was and is not an easy undertaking.
