Due to the many advancements in infertility treatment couple suffering with infertility have been given the opportunity to have a family of their own. Infertility is when a women in unable to conceive a baby after a year of unprotected sex. Infertility can because by a number of things that are out of our control but there are also a number of treatments that can be done to improve fertility levels. A common misconception is that only women struggle with fertility issues but that is not the case. Men and women contribute to the development of a baby therefore both can contribute to the under development of the child as well. For pregnancy to occur the following steps must take place; one of two of the ovaries releases a mature egg, the mature egg is picked up by the fallopian tube sperm swim u the cervix through the uterus and into the fallopian tube to reach the egg for fertilization, the fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube and to the uterus, in the uterus the fertilized egg implants and grows. …show more content…
In women infertility is caused by damaged fallopian tubes, hormone levels inconsistencies, cervical abnormalities/damage, and uterine damage. Infertility in men is caused by; Hormone problems, sperm production problems, blockage of sperm transport, and sexual problems. The cause of infertility can be determined by a series of tests. For women you can determine the cause of infertility though; ovulation testing, hysterosalpingography, ovarian reserve testing, other hormone testing, and laparoscopy. To determine infertility in men the following tests can be performed; general physical examination and medical history, semen analysis, scrotal ultrasound, hormone testing, post ejaculation urinalysis, genetic test, testicular biopsy, specialized function test, and trans rectal ultrasound.
