How much influence does standardized testing really have on students?
Throughout time there have been many changes and advances in teaching and with technology playing a big role in how teachers teach to there class nowadays and with all the students having cell phone and access to the internet it’s hard for teachers to teach there classes without have to worry about all the kids that cheat their way through with google and or app that give students the answers. So many student have started questioning our education system and not only because technology has started to lead our education but because teachers have started teaching to the test instead of teaching the students what they really need to know in order to succeed in life. Because of standardized test students are not trying to be their very best they are just trying to pass the test because they know that once they get the test out of the way then school will be easy and teachers will stop caring and just knowing that they know that they will be able to slack off and do whatever they want because they have already passed. School for kids can be a very stressful environment because students are always competing to be better than one another rather than just trying to be the best that they can be and because of this they are in the mindset that if they are not better than this one person then they are not good at all and studies have shown that standardized test create a stress and that stress psychologically and physically harmful, which in tern puts your brain in “fight or flight’ mode which makes in impossible to put the brain into any type of thinking …show more content…
In our schools if you don't pass a test you retake it for a 70 but for a standardized test if you fail then you have to repeat that class and retake the test all over again and because of that students try their best even if they don't know what they are doing but they still try and those students that fail they let it get to them and that puts a lot of strain on their confidence which in turn makes them think less of themselves and makes them think they are not good enough and once that happens they just stop trying altogether. We live in a society where if you are not good at something then you are not good at anything, and because of that students that are not good at math or english believe they are stupid so they end up not doing it and failing or they end up cheating and turning it in for a good but really they are not trying at all to better themselves. As a student i excel in science and physics but what i do not excel in algebra and english and when i was younger i always just believed i was stupid because i wasn't at the same level as all of my other classmates and once i found out i had dyslexia my teachers finally started paying attention to my needs, and they accommodated for me but i still needed help and yea i had
