People don’t much participate in politics, but their voices can be sent to the government and the lawmakers through Interest groups. They are the perfect groups which represent every voice matters. Laws and policies made by the government impact the people living in a specific society or a state. So, it is their right and freedom to demand the shared good of the people. 1 “Over the last two years, lobbyists reporting spending $4.7 million on food and beverage for state officials and employees and their relatives and another $846,000 on entertainment such as concerts and games” (Ross Ramsey). With a tremendous amount of money being spent on lobbying, the government should consider adding some limitations and having an oversight to those interest groups having access to the larger funds. As the primary purpose of the interest is to gather quiet voice of people and carry it on to the government and policy makers, so during lobbying, none of the people or the society should be discriminated. Individuals who are the head of interest groups could misuse their position, and corruption could occur. Those who can contribute an enormous amount of money to these organizations to support campaigns can easily get their concern to the respective authorities while others are having a small budget could not which is not what democracy is. 2 “Lobbyists don’t have to report the names of the legislators they are entertaining unless the expenditures go over $114 per day” (Ross Ramsey). It overrides the influence of individual’s in the politics because I believe the collective group has more power to control the government. Also, a group of individual stands to benefit the public goods, which for many interest group make changes in governmental policies. It is really hard for a single person to raise the voice in most of the condition by influencing the government. So, interest groups can also be considered as the bridge hands for common people to the government because common people are connected to the policymakers with the help of interest groups.
