Planning:
Planning refers to the idea of making plans for something and organizing or arranging for that event to occur. Whether it be going to the store, working on an assignment, or making plans with friends, these all require some type of forethought. This is another area in which I need to improve.
Daily: During my internship on a daily basis to improve my planning skills I will set numerous reminders. Often being a School Psychologist or a student there are dates and times that need to be remembered. This could be as menial as making sure to grab lunch or as important as remembering a meeting with faculty and parents. I will set up reminders on my phone and computer one week, a few days, and a couple hours before any event so that I make sure I have everything I need and that I am prepared. When working on a report I will make sure I set reminders on my phone, computer, and in my planner, will assist me in marking down when I need to have a report finished and how early I need to start a report. Generally, I start my report as soon as I receive background information on a child, and then gradually work through my reports as the information comes in for my reports. This is how I could like to continue to work on my reports with a few alterations. One alteration I would like to make weekly is to have another intern check over my report(s) to make sure I have done everything correctly. Whether this be every couple of weeks or so I believe it is important to work on this process with another set of eyes. If another intern is not on site, I could have my supervisor, one of my professors, or one of my cohort members look at a sanitized copy of my report without any identifying information. I have done this throughout my two years in graduate school, and many times this seems to help me make appropriate corrections to my reports.
Monthly: Similarly, the monthly goals are like the weekly goals. When writing a report, I want to make sure I have other colleagues checking my work since it seems I have deficits in these areas. Furthermore, giving my ways to improve these skills over time with suggestions that are helpful or resources will go a long way to helping me improve overall with my writing.
