Interprofessional Capabilities Framework

As a second year children’s nursing student, I have carried out three clinical placements to date, as a result I have experienced diverse levels of collaborative and IPW.
On completion of the self-assessment exercise using the interprofessional capabilities framework, Even though I found it difficult to mark my own ability, I was able to identify personal strengths and weaknesses. It is evident that I am scoring between L1 and L2 in most capabilities, as L3 appear to be a more advanced level and will apply for maybe year three or even as a autonomous qualified nurse in the future. I believe completion of this framework, demonstrates my level of competence at this particular stage of my pre-registration training.

I am able to identify how team structures influence communication between members of healthcare team through previous practice placement, as I have spent many days working with a variety of members in the multi disciplinary team, this aided the importance of IPC and it effectiveness in achieving high standards of care being delivered to both children and their families. Collaborative practice strengthens healthcare systems and improves health outcomes as a result. The World Health Organization (2014)(WHO) identifies interprofessional collaboration
in and practice as a innovative approach that is vital in justifying health experts.
In order to develop my personal capability from L2 to L3, it is facilitated through participation and learning from this particular module, in addition with the use of continuing to play an active role in the multi disciplinary team whilst in practice. This will enable me to develop and apply knowledge of team structures, dynamics and professional roles as well as being able to provide effective contributions to the healthcare setting. Furthermore, exploitation of further evidence base should encourage improved practice and service
