Racism would still be just as common in sports as it was back then, if it wasn’t for Jackie Robinson. Youngest of 5 children, Jackie Robinson was born and raised in Cairo, Georgia. He went to high school at John Muir High School and later attended Pasadena City college and UCLA, where he excelled in baseball, track, basketball, and football. Robinson’s inspiration to be in sports was his older brother, Matthew, who won silver at the 1936 Olympic Games.

Robinson was accepted into the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. While playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, he would be threatened and cursed at on the regular. Though furious, he ignored the people who doubted him and let out his anger in the game, playing like never before. Winning Rookie of the Year
