Why JFK is an American Hero It was a sunny autumn day in November of 1963, when Americans were struck with shock after hearing the news of their president. During the Cold War, John F. Kennedy (JFK) rose to the challenge of being bombarded with many pivotal decisions. This, for example, is just one of the reasons why John. F. Kennedy is celebrated as an American hero. Furthermore, he is a hero because of his personal achievements, his way of helping others and his efforts toward fighting for world peace.

Kennedy’s personal achievements made him an extremely respected individual. Being the youngest American president of all time showed that he was a very knowledgeable and experienced leader, despite his young age. Kennedy’s Harvard education also positively contributed to his public image, which is another reason people remember him with great respect. Attending the prestigious university of Harvard allowed him to use his academic skills to assure the well-being of America and gain their trust & admiration. …show more content…
In 1940, Kennedy (who was a part of the Navy during WWII at the time) and his crew were operating a PT boat when it was struck by a Japanese torpedo, killing two and injuring the rest of his crew. Kennedy managed to swim to an island 3 12 miles away with his crew while dragging some of his crew behind him who were unable to swim. Kennedy eventually led his crew to being rescued while evading Japanese ships that may spot them.
