“However important the struggle is and however much misery and poverty and degradation exists we know that it cannot be more important than one human life.” This is a quote from one of the heroic figures of our time, Cesar Chavez. In this quote he was talking about the respect that holds as sacred as the land, the people, and all other forms of life. Chavez was a migrant field worker, a father of eight, a grandfather to thirty-one, and an activist to his community. He is important because he led boycotts and went on several hunger strikes. As a labor, Chavez fought for equality, inspired people through non-violence, and helped people learn of the importance of standing up for the injustices. Chavez fought for equality for farm workers. Farm workers work their butts off and as much as 30% of harvesters in California were under-aged children. Migrant workers’ babies suffer a 25% higher rate of death than the rest of the population.
