The North gained a sense of sentiment and accomplishment after seeing John Brown’s work. But the South was completely revolted and saw the North now as a physical and violent threat. The South saw the Harpers Ferry as a direct assault on their pro-slavery laws. So, the southern states started seceding, which enraged the North.
