In Chopin’s ‘The Story of an Hour’ she portrayed a woman who felt like she was oppressed by her husband. Oppressed the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, anxiety, etc. Though Chopin didn’t go into detail about what made the woman, Louise, feel this way, she hinted by using textual evidence throughout the story.
Evidence that Louise was oppressed was when she stated ‘And yet she had loved him - sometimes. Often she had not.’ This statement clearly showed that she had a strained love relationship with her husband.
