The rise of labor unions in 1865-1900 were caused by poor conditions for workers, and unfair wages, their rise forced big businesses to be more fair toward their workers, it eventually improved the economy, and also contributed to racial tensions.
The poor working conditions, low wages, as well as harsh hours, were just some of the hardships that factory workers faced during 1865-1900. The early ideas of labor unions were not as effective at first, the National Labor Union was founded in 1866, was only around for eleven years, but in those eleven years it paved the way for the more long term idea that people to fight for what they wanted in a workplace.
