Laparoscopic SurgeryLaparoscopic Surgery
Thanks to all the advancements in science , most gynecological processes today can be carried out via laparoscopies. Open surgeries are a thing of the past. Many medical studies have verified that with this type of surgery, recovery is almost immediate, there is minimal pain and a shortened hospital stay.
So, what is Laparoscopic Surgery?
This is usually an outpatient procedure, where the patient is commonly released on the same day. Recuperation is mostly painless since there is little organ and tissue manipulation. The anesthesia utilized is a mixture of an epidural block and sedation. A small inscision is made in the abdomen at the belly button. A trocar is placed there and a telescopic lense is inserted. The image is viewed on a screen. Then two more small incisions (5 mm) are made at hip level where other trocars are placed for the laparoscopic tweezers and scissors. The abdominal cavity is insufflated with CO2, which makes a bubble, giving the doctors greater visibility. A careful evaluation is carried out of the entire cavity and then the required intervention is carried out. With laparoscopic surgery we can directly visualize the ovaries and uterus and manipulate them minimally as needed. …show more content…
In Mexico, there are few cities where this type of surgery is carried out. It requires specialized equipment, such as a Xenon light source, a CO2 insufflator, the laparoscopic camera and other laparoscopic instruments. Additionally, medical personnel has to be trained to carry it out. I recommend gynecologists with endoscopic training and preferably reproductive specialists, since they will be more careful of the female reproductive organs. Other general surgeons and urologists trained in laparoscopic techniques carry out these type of procedures as well.
