In addition, I feel that being proactive and putting first things first truly correlate. Both of my scores in these characteristics can use improvement. Being proactive is certainly a leadership practice that I can build upon. Unfortunately, I tend to be more reactive to situations which does not allow me to plan for future goals. I tend to be concerned with the outcome and end result I can be quick to miss a step in a project. For example, I was working on building a dining room table with my husband. Because we were not proactive about the process it took three months to accomplish when it should have taken a week or two. In addition, we made numerous mistakes along the way due to improper planning and skipping steps.

For a Situational Leader it is important to identify the needs of your followers prior to making a determination on how to coach them (Hersey, 1979). My position with ABC Company, I am part of our injury claims handling team. I am also responsible for training and development of new hires after joining our team. Prior to determining how I will approach coaching our new hires, I ensure that I understand their preferences and personalities. For example, I take new hires with me on meetings that are further way so that I can get to know their individual personality and skill sets. We quickly build relationships when we spend more time with each other. I make it an important part of my position take my co-workers to lunch and assist them when they need help so that we can maintain strong relationship. Because of my ability to build strong relationships, my co-workers and I work better together, I understand their individual needs, and we can depend on one
