Liberal Arts Education Ever since I came to The American University of Kuwait, I have been hearing the term “Liberal Arts education” and how is it considered to be the best teaching method, but I did not know how is it better than other methods until I took the University 100 course I found out that liberal arts means the skills of freedom. In other words students have to take classes in all division such as humanities, fine arts, mathematics,and social and behavior science to gain more experience, and to become open-minded. As the fourth President of the United States James Madison said, “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves the power which knowledge gives” and as a student I want to gain knowledge, in order …show more content…
It was designed to equip us the students with a broad base of knowledge, that would ensure that we are good in various subjects, and develop mental skills that would let us to think critically.
 While being an expert in one area is a useful tool for some people, the liberal arts is a way for anyone who applies themselves to gain basic knowledge in subjects that might otherwise puzzle them. When students apply these principles to daily life, they find that they are more equipped to handle problems and situations in the world they live. For example, a person who would normally shudder in front of an audience can learn techniques to better handle public speaking, or if someone who does not typically work with mathematical equations in their career can make use of this knowledge in other areas, such as their finances. A workaholic may find beauty outside the office after developing a taste for the fine arts. Many times we find ourselves fearing the unknown, afraid to try new things. When we know what it is that we enjoy, we cling to these things and develop ourselves around
