I have learned so much taking the Intro to Psychology class. The topics we covered in class were very interesting and applicable to our lives. Everything I have learned in this class could easily be used in everyday life. The topic I enjoyed the most was memory, more specifically long-term memory and false memories. First of all, long-term memory is a type of memory storage that is relatively permanent. It is similar to a hard drive on a computer. Memories that are stored into long-term memory can be there for life. As discussed in class there are ways to help get things into long-term memory. To get something into long-term memory it needs to be attended to. Repetition is not good for getting things into long-term memory. Repeating something over and over again does not mean it will go into long-term memory. For example, if you are studying vocabulary words for class and you just repeat them over and over it may not go into long-term memory. If there was a final at the end of the course the information may not be there because it didn’t go to long-term memory. Elaborative learning is best for studying. Elaborative …show more content…
False memories are memories that we create that did not actually happen. False memories can be implanted. There was a study done about false memories. People would go to Disney World and when they left they were asked about Bugs bunny. They were asked if they saw him and if the enjoyed seeing him. Some people would say that they saw him, and even talk about how they talked to Bugs Bunny, even though Bugs Bunny is not at Disney World. He isn’t even a Disney character. They created a false memory of seeing him. This is called the bunny effect. I found this topic to be interesting. Sometimes me and my mom will talk about my childhood and things I have done. There are times I will say that I did something, but then my mother will say that never happened. Those memories could be false
