Lung cancer, like other types of cancer, is the result of an abnormality in the cell of the body. This type of cancer can grow in any part of the lung, although 90-95% of lung cancers are known to arise from the cells lining the smaller and the larger airways.

What are the Lung Cancer Risk Factors
Normally, the human body has a system that balances and checks the cell growth so that the cells are divided to produce new cells when needed. If there is a disruption in this body system, there can be cells proliferation or uncontrolled division of cell growth. Then, it will form a mass that is known as the tumor.

If we are referring to cancer, we speak of tumors that are malignant or those that have spread to other parts of the patient’s body. The tumors often aggressively grow where they begin, although it can also enter into the lymphatic system or into the bloodstream to spread to other sites. This whole process of spreading the tumor is called metastasis. When lung cancer metastasizes, it can become one of the most difficult cancers to treat.

Different Lung Cancer Stages
Here are the lung cancer stages:
-Stage 1. In this stage, the cancer is present in the lung but has not yet spread outside the organ.
-Stage 2. The cancer is located in the nearby lymph nodes and the lung.
-Stage 3. The cancer spreads in the lung, in the middle of the chest, and the lymph nodes.
-Stage 3A. Cancer is present in lymph nodes but on the same side of the patient’s chest where the lung cancer first appeared.
-Stage 3B. Lung cancer extends to the lymph nodes above the collarbone or on the chest’s opposite side.
-Stage 4. Cancer is present in both lungs, to the distant organs, or an area surrounding the lungs.
