I believe those religious practices such as the ones practiced in Burning man and the ones spoken about my Malcolm X allow individuals and communities to form sites of political and social resistance against a status quo because it gives the groups of people the freedom to express their individualism in any way they choose. Throughout this essay I will explain to you why both these religious practices allow its followers to feel safe and protected to express their feelings throughout the channels that are given to them. While one is a festival and one is an actual religion, they both have had an every growing number of followers that it has allowed those followers to go not only against social norms but develop their own.
