Louise was a very well-educated woman from the British Island of Grenada. His father, Earl Little was a preacher and an excellent speaker who spoke about racial inequality. He felt that blacks should own their own businesses and schools if they wanted a better life. Earl beat Louise and sometimes even his own children. For a strange reason he never beat Malcolm. According to Malcolm, Earl favored him more than his other siblings. Earl always took Malcolm to African-American events to meet successful African-American people.

With one side of his head crushed and his body appeared to have been ran over by a trolley car. The police ruled his death as a suicide, rumor was that Earl had been killed by white supremacists. After Malcolm’s father was killed, life was hard. His mother worked like all the other black women did in their town, cleaning houses for .50 cent a day, which was $2.50. The white women were paid $5.00 a week, for the same work. There was no money, food, or clothing for Louise and her children.
