Society today resolves around it and it forms the basis for the language of design. The Gaze. While this term most commonly refers to the art of looking, it has a lot more influence than just what meets the eye. In this essay the male gaze will be discussed and a conclusion will be made on whether it has changed since the past or if it remained constant throughout the ages.

Looking is a social practice, whether we do it by choice or compliance. Through looking, and through touching and hearing as means of navigating space organised around the sense of sight, we negotiate our social relationships and meanings. (Sturken, Cartwright, 9, 2009)

It is said that Men act and women appear signifying that when it comes to the female part of mankind, only appearance matters while the male dominate with the power of looking. In the best known cultures in history the male gender has dominated. From the millions of stories told, only a few are of the female gender.
