Manifest Destiny was the ideology used by white Americans to justify the expansion of their land across all of North America. This was used to extremes as these white Americans didn’t care if they had to pay large sums of money, start wars with neighboring countries, or even battle Native Americans preoccupying the land. Manifest Destiny in the Mexican-American war resulted in Mexico losing almost 55% of all their land in order to end the war. America was bigger than ever and was still coming for more. The idea, Manifest Destiny, was popular before the Civil War but lost popularity as the US realized the amount of states were getting too big a control.
