Weather in Manzanar was unexpected from the people. They never expected these type of weather conditions and were very much not prepared for these conditions. They had extreme winters and summers. During the Summer the temperature would rise as high as 110℉. As in the winter time, Manzanar’s temperature would go below freezing. In other internment camps like the Topaz Internment Camp in Central Utah, their winters would hover over near or even below zero. Their summers would soar to the 90’s. In the Granada (Amache) internment camp located in Colorado, their summers were heated and winters were windy. These are important to world history, but there are other camps that are also important to WWII history. These are the Japanese internment camps, which are found along the west coast of the United States. One the most well-known camps was Manzanar. The camps were used to house Japanese, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. President Franklin Roosevelt, issued the authority for those from, or of Japanese descent, to be moved to internment camps. One quality that both Jewish and Japanese camps had in common, was that both groups were imprisoned for actions outside of their control. One main one being those in the Nazi’s camps, were killed. While those held in the American camps were simply being housed. The Japanese were offered opportunities at paying jobs, the Jews were not offered this. They were forced to work and were often worked to death. While the Japanese were in the camps, many of their homes, business, and many other of their belongings and properties were vandalized. They were discriminated against in neighborhoods, even after they were left out of the camps. After they were released, they were not allowed rent in certain neighborhoods of apartments.
