Historic Site where thousands of visitors tour each year. His brother’s name was A.D. King and his sister’s name is Christine King Farris. His mother’s name was Alberta Williams King and his father’s name was Martin Luther King, Sr.
Martin received many awards but I am only naming a few of them. For example, in 1964, Martin was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent resistance to racial prejudice in America.

He was in Memphis supporting equal pay for Black garbage workers to the same pay as white garbage workers. A man named James Earl Ray shot him and he was rushed to the hospital. An hour later, at 7:05 pm he was pronounced dead. This event was a miserable and depressing day for many people in America and throughout the world.
The back story of assassination – “In the spring, while preparing for the march to Washington to lobby congress on behalf of the poor, Dr. King and all of the SCLC members were called to
Memphis, Tennessee.” On April 4, 1968, Dr. King gave a speech at the Mason Temple Church.
In his speech, he talked about the “promised land” and how he was not sure if he was going to get there with them. Just after his speech, at 6:00 pm that same day while standing on the 2 nd floor of his hotel room balcony with his associates, a bullet went through his neck and killed him.
