#BlackLivesMatter, this hash tag is everywhere such as, on the news, on all the social media sites, and you hear people talking about it in everyday life. People have heard of the hash tag, but they do not really know what the hash tag is truly representing. When people think of #BlackLivesMatter they think of police brutality towards African Americans, but they leave out the part where African Americans are getting cheated out of all the resources that are supposed to be equal for every human being. White people are so oblivious to the fact that people of color are still discriminated against to the point where they think this is a color blind society, and even to the extent that they feel they can claim “reverse racism.” The #BlackLivesMatter …show more content…
They have done so much for the black community, and have put so much on the line so that the next generations could have a better future. It seems like all the progress that the African American community has attained, has been getting stripped away little by little in a discrete way. In the movie Selma, it showed how Martin Luther King fought for African Americans to have the right to vote without barriers which resulted in the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Now it is starting to show up that these barriers are starting to come up again. In class we talked about how Texas is starting to implement little barriers for people of color, and also they are starting to redistrict so the African Americans have to be in a certain district. Most people are not even aware of that, and that is the reason the #BlackLivesMatter movement is so critical. The movement is not just used to bring awareness for the deaths of African Americans by police officers, but also to bring consciousness of all the inequalities that African Americans face on a day to day basis. Also this movement is encouraging black people that their lives do actually matter, and that they are just like anybody other race and they should do what they can to keep their rights from being withdrawn from them. It is agreeable that all lives do matter, but not all lives are in jeopardy on a day to day basis. The other races do not have to worry about what to do when you see a police officer. White people do not have to worry about unfair opportunity or unfair access to educational resources.
