Why do we as humans do the things we do? Most all human behavior can be explained by motivation. Maslow’s pyramid of needs lays out the various levels of self-actualization starting with physiological needs, safety, achievement, esteem, and lastly self-fulfillment many individuals progress through these various levels to get to the ultimate attainment of goals and finding ones purpose. In this paper we will explore the commonalities between Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and the video called the Ultimate gift. Before one can reach the pinnacle of Maslow’s pyramid many steps must be realized and mastered before moving forward. Grandpa Red had more in store another video describing what was to be Jason’s next gift. The paycheck he received from working as a farm hand was to be spent totally on someone else who was in greater need than himself this gift was meant to teach Jason the value of money. Jason spent the entire paycheck and a little more paying Alexia’s mortgage as she was on the verge of eviction. Emily was in the hospital as her illness worsened. Red felt he needed Jason to experience the need from an entirely different prospective. Red left this message on vide for Jason “Learning is a gift even if pain is the teacher.” This message truly came to light when Jason visited the very spot where his father lost his life trying to do for others. As Jason experienced all that his grandfather had intended in Equador and headed home, the overwhelming desire immersed Jason to become a better individual and help others to be the best they could be. Jason was now experiencing the Esteem level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Red had a plan laid out well in advance that if Jason could learn and grow from the gifts he had given him that he would receive 100 million dollars to help other fulfill their dreams. Shortly after returning from Equador Jason learned of Emily’s death, Jason would go on to set out to make a dream come true for Alexia by creating a state of the art medical facility, housing for the parents so they could live on site and be near their children and an opportunity to work and contribute making a little income for themselves all while their children were cared for this dream would become known as Emily’s
