The media log that is selected is a music video called “Are you getting enough?” by Professor Green. (Manderson, 2013) The video was showing the different triggers and the effects of consumerism on many individuals. It displays advertisements like a woman who is applying make-up, a man pitching his slogan, “Life as you know it, but better”, and a fit guy on a elliptical machine. In accordance with vanity, there is a child who is participating in a beauty pageant and a muscular man who is lifting weights, possibly for a bodybuilding competition. Along with the rest are a series of footage of crime happening in department stores, streets and in different locations. In one of the footages are people violently clamoring for items in a store.

Professor green lists a range of emotions that are stimulated by consumerism like feeling poor, deprived, and sluggish. (Hull and Kane, 2014) With over an average of 3,000 commercials, advertisement messages, and brand exposures per day (Johnson, 2014), it is evident as to how dominating media can be towards individuals. The media’s objective is to make you question what you have – if it is good enough or not. With the absurd amount of commercial exposure one encounters everyday; it’s no wonder why the majority of viewers are struggling to keep themselves satisfied.

Advertising and media have played a big role on the materialistic mindset that a lot of people struggle to cope with. Media shows that buying is directly proportional to happiness, which causes men and women alike to consume then replace in an addicting cycle. Numerous people confuse the desire for material goods with the actual need for those items. Some people cannot even afford what they are spending; and once they realize this, they might resort to a darker and more desperate way.
