Methadone is a highly addictive, schedule 3 opiate that is primarily used for the treating of chronic, severe pain that is not relieved by the use of OTC (Over the Counter) drugs. This medication is also prescribed to heroin addicts as a way to ease the severity of their withdrawal symptoms.
Unfortunately, with administering a narcotic medication, to a narcotics addict, there is little more that you can expect to happen, beyond a simple transference of chemical dependency. And therein lies the problem at hand, giving an astonishing rise to the number of Methadone Dependent individuals.
