Mexico’s government is a Federal Representative Republic, officially named Estados Unidos Mexicanos or United Mexican States. This system of government is like of our own in which it is split up into three levels of government The federal union, The state governments, and The municipal governments. The country's total area is 1,972,550 square kilometers (761,601 square miles), or nearly 3 times the size of Texas. Spanish explorer Francisco Vazquez de Coronado was the first European to comprehensively explore New Mexico in 1540 after hearing grandiose stories about the existence of gold.
Some interesting historical facts are that Mexico City is built over the ruins of a great Aztec city, Tenochtitlan. Because it is built on a lake, Mexico is sinking at a rate of 6 to 8 inches a year as pumps draw water out for the city’s growing population. Mexico is a large country and the climate of Mexico varies substantially depending on the region of the country that you are visiting. The climate in the desert regions are typically very hot during the day and cool at nights. The desert regions can often be windy as well. In general, Mexico City enjoys spring weather year round, with the evenings somewhat cooler, especially in winter. June to September is the rainy season, which usually includes short and heavy showers in the afternoons. Some of Mexico’s natural resources are petroleum, silver, copper, gold, lead, zinc, and timber. Mexico’s population is estimated to be about 113 million. Mexico’s flag is based on the French tricolor flag design white and green are the colors of the national liberation army of Mexico. The coat of arms centered in the white band is the badge of Mexico City, the country's capital. Its main feature is an eagle, and it is said that an Aztec legend told them to build their new city on the exact spot where they saw an eagle sitting on a cactus, eating a snake.
