Microaggressions are everyday verbal or nonverbal insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate negative messages that target people based solely upon one or more aspects of their social identity. Although microaggressions are given the prefix "micro" because of their commonality, they actually play a huge role in the systematic oppression of marginalized social groups. The reason for this is that they are the most frequent way that a negative stereotype is perpetuated in society.
Although it may be difficult for one to reflect on the microaggressions that they experience on a daily basis, because they are so common, when examples are pointed out it is easy to realize that they exist. An example of a microagression in media
