The Morning-After Pill is also known as “The Plan B Pill “has been one of the most useful and effective emergency contraception methods today. So what exactly is The Morning After Pill? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines The Morning-After Pill as an oral drug that contains high doses of estrogen that can be taken up to 3 days after unprotected sex, this pill interferes with pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation or by blocking the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus. A safety net meaning that if a person has had unprotected sex and their method has failed no matter if it were to be a broken condom or birth control. This helps prevent pregnancy in only the most urgent situations. This contraceptive is in most cases 89-95% effective when started within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse (Smith, Jenn). Keeping The Morning-After Pill available over the counter means that there could be a decrease in unplanned pregnancies, which is a big problem in America every day.Dr. Angela Diaz applauds the morning after pill ‘it gives anyone of reproductive age another tool to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy in an emergency if their regular methods fail”. Not only is it a safe but it is effective and it physically a lot safer than going through a natural pregnancy. According to the New York Daily News by 12th grade 60% of teens are sexually active. It is imperative that teens and adults have easy access to this emergency contraceptive. Rainn.org claims that every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted ,9 out of every 10 victims of rape are female .Raiin also states that 1 out of 6 american women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime..A majority of the child victims raped are ranged ages 12-17 (Rain). Keeping the morning after pill available will help rape victims They have the opportunity to stop ovulation with this contraceptive therefore preventing a forced and unwanted pregnancy.lthough the past won't be erased the victim won't have to feel haunted by the repercussions of the past.
