In the stage production of Into the Woods, audiences are deprived of certain elements that make the movie so much more captivating. For example, in the stage production, there is only one camera angle that the viewers experience and that is the entirety of the stage. Camera angles, in general, allow the viewers to become more connected with the characters. It allows for more intimate, emotional, scenes. Multiple camera angles, like the ones used in the movie version, allows for all of these elements to come to life. Another thing that the stage production lacks is speed. Into the Woods is a humorous story, so every time a performer tells a joke, the performer has to stop so that the audience can laugh and wait for the commotion to quiet down before he can continue. This leads the production to last longer and drag on. Another reason for why the movie version of Into the Woods is better is because it has a better looking background because the producers were allowed to use green screens and CGI. Counterwise, the stage production had to use hand painted backdrops and props because of the lack of technology that stage allows people to use. Another reason why the cinematography is better in the movie is the use of CGI. Movies are allowed to insert computer generated images into their scenes unlike stage productions. For example, when Cinderella is visiting her mother’s grave and wishes to go to the ball, a dress appears directly on Cinderella, whereas, on stage, the dress descended by strings. In order to argue the point that the stage production is better, some people may say that the backgrounds of the stage version took a lot of time and effort of very artistic people, but so did the movie production. In order to make the backgrounds of the movie possible, several people had to take many hours out of their time to edit these scenes and make it perfect. In conclusion, the movie version of Into the Woods is better
