The thought of moving from a place you have called home can be stressful. Moving houses is even more challenging for the elderly than for middle-aged people. As one advance in age, they become attached to their possessions. Also, you have to grapple with tasks such as packing their belongings, labeling the boxes and making decisions on what to discard or tag along to the new house. Clearly, relocating an elderly friend or relative is not an easy task. However, there is no reason for panic since you can always hire expert movers.

Plan in advance
With a relocation being imminent, consider coming up with a strategy. During this phase, go through all the stuff in your parent’s house. Make a note of what needs to be thrown or given away. Discard expired medications, food items, old and tattered clothes. These tend to consume much space unnecessarily. Next, go through documents such as old check books and tax invoices. Consider shredding them. However, take care to retain documents such as passports, certificates of birth, degrees, diplomas and medical records. Dedicate a filing cabinet for their storage.
Work with a list
Get a notebook and start recording everything that needs to go to the new location. Remember to include favorite items that older adults get attached to and cannot let go. Your mom or dad must love the corner seat. Think of the dinner set your aunt has had in her kitchen over the years. How about the baseball cap that your uncle keeps on his lap whenever he is watching a game. Such possessions have sentimental value, and it would disappoint a senior person to lose
