You must be creative with how you interact with children younger than yourself. It often takes longer for children to understand instructions or explanations since they are still learning. Taking time to try and teach another person is an eye opening experience. I once sat with a kindergarten girl for an hour helping her learn the numbers. She would continually get confused and I had to find new ways to explain which numbers were “friends” and which numbers were “magic.” As silly as it may sound, after working with someone for so long and you see them start to understand what you are teaching, the feeling is extraordinary. I still remember how proud I was of that student and it lights a fire underneath me to help others. Another eye opening experience I had was volunteering at the Special Olympics. Even though I am friends with people who have disabilities and understand that it is never truly constraining, I was still shocked when I attended this event. I wrongly showed up with the preconception that I would have to assist the players much more than I actually had to. I was assigned to help with the softball tournament for that day and after watching them play, I was astounded by their skill
