Elizabeth Cochrane Seaman or better known as Nellie Bly was a popular journalist during the 1800’s. In that time most women journalists would use a pen name when writing. Nellie Bly chose hers from a song written by Stephen Foster. Bly was no ordinary journalist, she was what some would call an investigative journalist. Which means she got most or all of her information from firsthand experience. For example, when doing an undercover article for her new job at the New York World.
