Although not represented in our media, from the years 1887 till 1895, Nellie Bly, using her journalism, was efficiently able to expose the corrupt government and the financial struggles present in the country, while also challenging the stereotype that women in journalism should only write about topics that were regarded as feminine. She was known to achieve her goal in highlighting the struggles of those who were marginalized and cast aside in society by using investigative techniques that involved going undercover and immersing herself on the topics that she was reporting on.
