Health Issues in the Borough of the Bronx and Manhattan New York in general has to deal with a variety of health issues that affect its citizens. However, different boroughs have to deal with differing health issues that are dependent on different factors such as living conditions, poverty levels and access to preventive and curative healthcare services. One of the problems that residents of the Bronx continue to suffer from is low access to healthcare services. Although the borough’s government has tried to increase access to healthcare services, this is still a persistent problem. In addition to this, lifestyle diseases have also been identified as persistent in this area. The number of people who report to be out of shape is considerably high in the Bronx. This is the reason behind the increasing numbers of persons dealing with obesity and related complications. Diabetes is also a common health problem in the Bronx. In comparison, Manhattan has to deal with alcohol and drug-related health complications more often that the Bronx (Lestch, 2011). In Manhattan, there are high rates of cancer, as compared to the Bronx. Similar to the Bronx, obesity and related complications are a pertinent health issues in Manhattan. However, the higher access to preventive care in Manhattan helps residents to identify health problems earlier and a proper treatment is offered.
