Stereotypes are short cuts made by the brain to make decisions easily and quickly. This is why many people don’t realize stereotypes have been such a big issue throughout history. Although this is something that has been going on for a long time, it is still a big issue today. Many people believe that stereotyping is something racially motivated, but that’s not the case. A stereotype is a generalized belief about a particular category of people. There are different types of stereotypes, and they aren’t all harmful. Stereotypes can be based on sex, gender identity, age, socioeconomic status, and language. These beliefs push Latinos to be more successful in proving these stereotypes wrong. These survey results show that the media does have a lot of effects on stereotypes and with changes in the media could come changes in the way people are perceived. Without change in the media, these stereotypes will be encouraged and will continue to survive. Since these stereotypes push Latinos to work harder to go against social norms, this pushes the idea that going against stereotypes is courageous. According to the Oxford Languages Dictionary, the definition of courage is “the ability to do something that frightens one.” Despite this being the official definition, the meaning of courage has changed a lot throughout history. One of the earliest forms of courage, originally meant "to speak one's mind by telling one's heart." Then eventually, over time, the definition became more synonymous with being heroic. Today, courage is about being vulnerable. For example, in the Stimulus Material Source 7, Simone Biles was seen as courageous for withdrawing out of the Olympic gymnastics team final in
