Wesley Cornwell11 February 2018GSC 300Community Sectors AssignmentThe Private SectorWhen it comes to the private sector of the community, it is this sector that deals primarily in trade and commerce. In this, the private sector is essentially, anything that is not the public sector with the exception of nonprofit organizations. This sector is controlled by individuals and not the government which is what makes it “private.” Think of this as the house of society. For example, in the United States of America, the government is not allowed to own a business. This means that every business in the United States is owned by an individual or a selective group of individuals but not by every individual who has citizenship in the United States. This means that every time someone goes grocery shopping, buys gas, sees a movie in the movie theatre, watches a live production (outside of school plays & with paid admission), conducts banking, and other similar activities, they are engaging with the private sector of the community. In this, every individual engages with the private sector at least once per day; because of this, this is where the bulk of the financial and commerce activity within the United States takes place. The primary purpose of this sector is to provide aid to certain qualifying individuals as well as educate the public and provide other resources from donations that the organization receives from the public or from grants from the government.This sector is typically comprised of organizations that have a Board of Directors but no single owner. Their monetary funding is primarily from donations that members of the community that support the organization give as well as a few monetary grants that the government gives out to organizations to perform specific activities such as research or a specialized educational program.One of the notable differences between this sector and the Private sector is that the Private sector is taxed on its monetary exchanges while the Nonprofit sector is not.
